2008 Fantasm Awards

Now Accepting Nominations!

Nominate your favorite authors and books for the 2008 Fantasm Awards to be given out early next year! You have until December 31st to nominate your favorites. We'll be tallying all the nominations and announcing the Finalists at the end of January, with voting to commence on February 1st and close on March 31, 2008. Winners will be announced at the beginning of April. We'll be posting periodic updates on our BLOG this year, so check there for the latest information.

What We're All About

This is not your typical awards site. These awards are geared specifically toward the sub-genres of romance fiction that seem to get lumped together by the bigger award sites. You know what we're talking about -- speculative fiction -- science fiction, fantasy, paranormal and all the sub-categories. They aren't all considered the same here. We know they are very different. So instead, we have categories like "Best Werewolf Romance" and "Best Post-Apocalyptic Romance." You can even suggest new categories if you think we've missed one.

Rules

  1. The stories MUST be romance in one of our listed sub-genres with a Happily Ever After (HEA) ending. Sweet or erotic is all right, but it must be romance at heart.
  2. To be eligible, books must have been published between 1/1/07 and 12/31/07 by a legitimate electronic or print publisher. (Self-published works are not eligible.)
  3. Nominations are open until 12/31/07 and anyone can nominate. (Yes, authors, you can nominate yourself, if you wish.)
  4. We will narrow down the list of nominations to a group of Finalists in each category and then voting will commence.
  5. Please read the category descriptions carefully.

What We Learned:

We learned a few things from this. First, people seldom follow instructions. LOL! If you're wondering about how we got the numbers, you'll have to understand first that many people didn't vote for every category. In fact, most ballots were incomplete, so the number of votes in each category is inconsistent. We also were sorry that apparently a few people missed the nominating rounds and wanted to try to write in candidates. We took note of these, but since they only received 1 vote each - the person who wrote them in - it wasn't worth reporting. Next year, those folks will just have to remember to nominate early! In fact, we're planning to open up nominations for next year in late December 2007, so check back for more information on that later in the year.

We also learned we have to make the nominating, voting, and counting process easier. A large part of the reason folks didn't follow directions was the confusion surrounding how to create and mail the ballots. We're looking into ways to make this process easier, so again, check back for next year's information later this year. We hope to have things more streamlined for next year's awards. Thanks to everyone who participated and made our first year such a great success! There were definitely more than a few speed bumps along the way, but we got through it and we're very proud of the results. We hope you are too.

Due to the limitations of our former provider, we're moving the Fantasm Awards to Blogger. I look forward to being able to update more easily here and not have any "over limit" downtimes. (Very frustrating.) Welcome to the new site!
